Serie A clubs charged with falsifying account
ROME, June 12 - Serie A clubs Genoa, Udinese and Reggina were charged with falsifying accounts so that they can meet the financial requirements to join championships past, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) said Thursday.
The chief executives of the three clubs have also been charged along with three senior leaders, the FIGC said on its website.
Genoa president Enrico Preziosi and CEO Franco Soldati Udinese are accused of "contracts stipulating rights player with services much higher than the values actually attributable to these rights."
The FIGC prosecutor said that the player values have been inflated to allow the two clubs to meet the necessary financial arrangements to register for the 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 seasons.
Reggina president Pasquale Foti has been accused of inflating transfer fees so that the southern Italian costume could enroll in the 2005/2006 Serie A season.
Serie A Champions Inter Milan and seven times European champions AC Milan have been charged in a similar case in February, although criminal charges against them were dropped.
A decision on the Inter Milan and the case is expected soon to a FIGC tribunal.
