Cannavaro replaced by Gamberini

MOEDLING, Austria, June 3 - Defender Alessandro Gamberini trained with Italy on Tuesday, just hours after joining the Euro 2008 squad.

Gamberini replaced Fabio Cannavaro, who was excluded from the tournament on Monday after tearing ankle ligaments when he was approached by Giorgio Chiellini in Italy from the first training session in Austria.

The incident was viewed by 6000 people who packed the stands during their basic training, but on Tuesday the world champions had a lower-key session.

The players refrained from any difficult challenges on the surface wet and the session was closed to the public.

The Italian soccer Federation President Giancarlo Abete attended as he awaits coach Roberto Donadoni to sign a two-year contract which was verbally agreed last month. His deal runs after the tournament.
